And the oscar goes to...

With the Academy Awards looming I have constructed a list of actors I predict will win an oscar (at some point or another!)

EMILE HIRSCH
I've seen him in an ever growing number of films and my oh my is he promising, bringing an apparent element of 'deep' to even comedic roles.
PREVIOUS SNUBS: 'Into the wild', possibly 'Milk'

RYAN GOSLING
He was canonised as the perfect man in 'The Notebook' and never looked back. His body of work prior to that film isn't huge, so he's obviously selective with his roles. The mark of a fine actor! He gained his first oscar nomination for best leading actor for 'Half Nelson', gave my personal favourite performance of his in 'Lars and the real girl', and is meant to be pretty damn snazzy in his new flick 'Blue Valentine'.
PREVIOUS NOMINATIONS: 'Half Nelson'
PREVIOUS SNUBS: 'Lars and the real girl', possibly 'The Notebook'

JOSEPH GORDON-LEVVIT
When the 2009 golden globe nominations were announced I felt 2 things:
1) YAY! Awww, that's nice, I like that. Joseph Gordon-Levitt getting some critical acclaim.
2) He gets his first major award nod for '500 days of summer'? Really?
Yeah, I went to see '500 days of Summer' at the cinema and did enjoy it but JGL has a pretty impressive body of work, none of which has garnered the level of attention he got for 500 days.
PREVIOUS SNUBS: 'Mysterious Skin', 'Brick'.

JAMES FRANCO
I suppose James Franco 'shot to fame' in 2002 playing dashing, moody, brooding, handsome Harry in 'Spider-man'. Yawn. Thankfully though, he is getting the more serious roles he deserves now, which doesn't mean drama after drama, because c'mon, how hilarious/brilliant is he in 'Pineapple express'? Also, I would like to be the first to predict him gaining critical acclaim for his first leading role in Danny Boyle's (rather amazing sounding) '127 hours'.
PREVIOUS SNUBS: 'Milk'.

JOAQUIN PHOENIX
It's safe to say Joaquin Phoenix was the first actor I fell in love with. I was certain he was the man for me and we would definitely get married, despite the 17 year age gap. Because he's an amazing actor! And quirkily handsome. And when he did his whole I'm-quitting-acting-and-becoming-a-rapper-and-yes-I-may-get-a-bit-crazy-but-that's-fine--it's-destiny, I understand what was going on, it was forced and staged and all for some documentary. But yeah, I got it, and I was understanding. (P.S My chosen pic of him was taken in February 2010 i.e. He's normal again!)
Anyway, back to his acting. He's already been nominated twice because he truly is extremely talented and I love him.
PREVIOUS NOMINATIONS: 'Gladiator', 'Walk the line'
PREVIOUS SNUBS: 'To die for', possibly 'The Village' (told you I liked him)

PAUL DANO
I think of all my predictions, Paul Dano is the won I would put the most money on. I was literally blown away by performance in 'There will be blood' *PREVIOUS SNUBS SPOILER*. Daniel Day-Lewis gives one of the greatest performances I've ever seen but Paul completely holds his own. Given his age, his ability is breathtaking.
PREVIOUS SNUBS 'There will be blood', 'Little Miss Sunshine'

COLIN FIRTH
Possibly the inspiration for this list, we all need to put our hands together and pray, pray that Colin wins the oscar for his stunning role in Tom Ford's stylishingly heartbreaking 'A Single Man'. Because Colin is really good! And we all knowing 'Crazy Heart' is just 'The Wrestler' with a guitar.
PREVIOUS NOMINATIONS: 'A Single Man'
PREVIOUS LOSSES: 'A single man'? Lets hope not!

S. Darko 2: Let me in

'Let the right one in' was undoubtedly the best film of 2009, for me at least, so image my utter disgust and heartbreak when I heard a U.S remake was in the works, not even 6 months after it's mainstream release no less! I mean, at least they usually wait a couple of years or so before they slaughter an original japanese horror movie.

However, my fellow prepubescent vampire love story fans, I believe we have encountered (and survived!) an emotionally trying and frustrating predicament similar to this before...

Remember a few years ago when it was announced there was going to be a 'Donnie Darko' sequal and everybody was repulsed for weeks, unable the shake the almost blasphemous abomination that we would later learn to be 'S. Darko' from their minds? Yeah. Whatever happened to that? A 3.9 rating on imdb, a 00% fresh rating on rotten tomatoes, and a straight to video mess that nobody would ever see, that's what!

Why? Because it was s**t! And entered a territory it really shouldn't have been messing about in; the world of brilliant, smart, iconic, legendary, superb films that don't require being remade or a sequal.

You can see where this is going. Fear not 'Let the right one in' fans, I say! For I predict that which they call 'Let me in' will replicate the outcome of 'S. Darko' and be hated, poorly received and career-ruining move for all involved, the way it should be.
